FISH - Helping You

What FISH does

FISH simply provides Transport and Support for the Community!

  • We provide transport through our network of private car drivers, and using our 16 seater minibus.
  • We run trips out - both for shopping and leisure.
  • We hold monthly tea parties.
  • We provide a prescription run for those who are unable to get to the local pharmacy.
  • We provide a service for ad-hoc shopping, collecting small items for those unable to shop due to temporary illness.
  • And we also provide home visits.

How do I use FISH?

To make use of any of the services FISH provides, all you need to do is ring the office (0118 972 3986), or drop in if you are passing by. We'd love to see you!

Personal Transport

Our volunteer drivers provide transport in their own cars for such things as visits to the doctor, hospital, and dental appointments. There are often times when arrangements can be made for clients to visit family who may be in hospital or need a comforting home visit.

We offer our volunteer drivers 40p per mile for a return journey, and welcome donations towards the cost of running this service. Our suggested donations can be found here:

Shopping

We run weekly shopping trips to Henley and Reading. The minibus will pick you up and drop you off at your own home. We accept bus passes, but if you don't possess one, the cost is only £4.00.

Our minibus has been specially designed and is fully accessible - if you have a walking aid or folding wheelchair, we can fit you in! It also has air-conditioning, and with its unique suspension provides a really comfortable ride.

Full details of this month's shopping trips can be found via this link:

Tea Parties

The second Monday of each month is Tea Party day! Held in the Sonning Common Village Hall from 2.30pm, as well as tea and cake, there is a raffle and entertainment. There's no need to book - just turn up. If you need transport, we can provide it- please contact the office. All we ask is perhaps a donation at the end of the afternoon to go towards our general fundraising.

Home Visits

The Home Visiting Service provides a befriending service to enhance the quality of life and provide more opportunities for social interaction for members of our community who would benefit from more social contact.  Our Volunteers are, as much as possible, "matched" with Clients so that they share common interests and pursuits.  The Volunteer will visit the Client in their home regularly for a chat.  They can also help with things like form-filling; and may, in time, choose to take the Client out for coffee or the cinema and can even accompany the Client on social outings, such as the FISH Tea Parties or a FISH Bus Trip.

Would you like to have one of our Volunteers visit you or go out with you on a regular basis?

Would you like to be a Home Visiting Volunteer and make a real difference to somebody's life?

If so, please contact the office who will pass your enquiry on to the Home Visiting Co-Ordinator
